Token2049, held in Singapore, is one of the world’s largest blockchain events, drawing a diverse audience of Web3 enthusiasts, investors, and industry leaders. Neo Blockchain aimed to showcase its robust infrastructure and supportive environment for building in the Web3 space through an interactive booth experience. Building on the success of previous activations, Neo sought to elevate engagement with a memorable activity that would foster participation and emphasize the ecosystem's strengths.

The competitive atmosphere of TOKEN2049 required more than a standard booth setup to capture attention. Neo needed a strategy that would distinguish its presence, engage attendees actively, and communicate the real-world utility of blockchain technology. To create a standout experience, we had to design an activation that would not only entertain but also resonate deeply with users and highlight Neo’s leadership in Web3.

The Block Spirits experience was first presented at WebX 2024 as an interactive, on-chain activation powered by Non-Fungible Item (NFI) technology developed by ITEM Systems. Leveraging the power of blockchain, each participant received a unique NFI card, unlocking access to one of four elemental spirit fighters (Fire, Water, Earth, and Shadow) tied to their unique blockchain signature. By scanning their cards with a mobile device, participants engaged in exciting battles where a randomly selected spirit and specific attributes determined the outcome.

New at Token2049 was the addition of an on-chain raffle with high-value prizes, including a PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, DJI drone, and Marshall speakers. Attendees could enter the raffle after battling and participating multiple times, adding an extra layer of engagement and excitement. Additionally, after a set number of battles, participants were able to redeem branded merchandise, such as caps and bags, as rewards for their participation and spirit.

Exceeded expectations

The Token2049 activation exceeded expectations, drawing high levels of engagement and undoubtedly becoming the busiest booth of the conference, successfully showcasing the tangible applications of Neo’s blockchain ecosystem.

Active Participation

500 NFI cards were distributed, with thousands of battles fought, creating a continuous flow of visitors at Neo’s booth throughout the event.

"I've accumulated about 90 battles, but I think it's all credit to the game, not to me. Essentially, the game is extremely addictive. It denotes the quality of the blockchain as well, the transactions when they are going through, the game has an immersive experience as well. So I think that compelled me to play the game again and again."

The raffle generated significant interest, with many participants eagerly engaging to enter for a chance to win premium prizes. This on-chain feature demonstrated blockchain's capability for verifiable and transparent reward systems.

"It was a really unique experience. I've not seen this thing done in the Token2049. I haven’t seen it done on-chain with all the force of people that we have going on. It's very exciting to see how it was able to take into account all the different types of people playing the game, and still the work is still loading. It did not lag, and the raffle was also on-chain, which was very exciting, which is a really good randomized situation. So I really liked it."
